Day 3: Ziplining, Smoothies, and Beaches

We started the day with tasty pancakes made by Mr. Piercy. To our surprise, the pancakes had strawberries, blueberries, whipped cream, and even Nutella. After we prepared sandwiches for the day (sadly, some discovered later that they forgot theirs, which were probably eaten by the wild chickens), we hopped into the car and took a short stop in Kapa’a, a nearby town, to get some coffee and check out a local surf shop. With coffee in our hands, we were all excited to take off for the ziplining adventure.

After a one-hour drive through the Garden Island, we arrived at Koloa Zipline. We split into two different groups and had to master eight different ziplines in total, sometimes going over 50 mph, which is actually faster than you are allowed to drive a car on this island. On each zipline we enjoyed a new view of this beautiful place, one time a huge lake, another time stunning rainforest scenery. The guides even let us try different positions, like Flying, Cruising, and hanging upside down.

The second group met a very nice couple who we endearingly called Grandma and Grandpa. They were so friendly they even said they wanted to adopt us! To our surprise, we ran into them again later at the beach and talked with them for a long time. Then we even saw our zipline instructor at the beach as well. It felt like a small reunion, which was very fun for us.

After ziplining, everyone was hungry, so we stopped at a smoothie shop and got smoothies, ice cream, and shaved ice. Then we drove to Poipu beach. A group of sea turtles was basking on the sand, and of course everyone gathered around them, including Phillip, who wanted to take a video with his GoPro. Mr. Piercy took one group out to swim in some of the bigger waves, which was very exciting.

After that, we went to Costco for a pizza dinner, and while we waited, we had a shopping cart race. The pizza was delicious, and soon we got back into the caravans to return to camp. On the car ride, one of the groups played a whole collection of Disney songs, and the entire car sang along loudly to each one. A big highlight for us!

We are now back at camp, ready to take some warm showers and end the day with a quick game of Uno.  We’ve been so fortunate so far to have no rain on this trip and have had beautiful weather.
